Four ways to reuse pillowcases
According to our friends at Planet Forward, it’s all about upcycling: “Upcycling is finding a new use for something you already have on hand, so that it is once again useful and stays out of a landfill.” On their blog, Planet Forward shares how to reuse everything from wine corks to mascara wands. They also have some great tips for upcycling pillowcases:
1. Dust ceiling fan blades: put the pillowcase over the blade and then pull off. It’s a simple way to keep you blade dust free and the pillowcase catches the dust inside so it doesn’t end up on the floor.
2. Protect your baby’s changing table: Use old pillowcases as covers when changing your baby. This way you can throw the pillowcase in the wash when they inevitably get dirty.
3. Machine wash stuffed animals: place dirty stuffed animals in an old pillowcase and tie shut, or fasten closed with a rubber band. This ensures that the stuffed toy isn’t damaged around the agitator and if the any pieces do fall off, they’re trapped in the bag so you can patch it up afterwards.
4. Make a trick-or-treat bag: An old pillowcase works better than plastic bags for collecting treats. Your child can even have fun by decorating the plain pillowcase to look spooktacular.
