Decoding Baby Talk

How long does baby talk last?
All babies speak the Dunstan baby talk language from birth to three months, but if you respond to your child when she “talks,” babies can make the sounds for much longer. “We have observed children continue to make these sounds consciously for up to a year,” says Dunstan. They key is to learn the language as soon as possible and respond.
Meet our Expert
Priscilla Dunstan was born with an eidetic memory–a photographic memory for sound. She used her gift to recognize patterns in the ways babies cry and decode their baby talk. Her theory has been tested on over a thousand babies of over 30 nationalities. After 12 years of research she developed the Dunstan Baby Language to help parents everywhere communicate with their babies.
